Air Brakes
Air brakes fit between the standoffs and the tail. They
slow the kite without changing the overall flying
characteristics too much. Normally these are made from mesh,
but for the Dark Star system we also produce a 'solid' ripstop
brake for more extreme winds. |

Cruise Control
These are self-adjusting brakes, which give a constant speed
across the wind window. These are especially helpful in irregular or
gusty conditions.

The Cruise Control works by allowing the wind pressure
to deflect the brake surface - the higher the wind, or the faster
the kite, the more deflection, the greater the braking effect.
You can adjust the tension on the brake to increase or decrease
the overall braking effect and sensitivity. The Cruise Control
is intended for precision flying only; it will compromise tricks
more than the other brakes.
Back Brake
The Back brake fits on the back of the kite. It adds extra drag,
and also spreads the mechanical load on the kite. It is normally
used together with the Air brake.

Airdynamics produce a range of aerodynamic aids, which extend the
performance range of the kites. The Dark Star was the first kite to have a
complete integrated kite system, which allows a single kite to cover an
extreme wind range.
It also helps in competition, where the wind changes once you are in
the arena. It's too late to swap kites, but you can easily keep a brake
or two in a back pocket.
